Thank you in advance for taking a few minutes to answer the questions on the reverse side of this form. You may expect a follow-up contact from one of your constituents who supports our positions on these issues.

Virginians Against Handgun Violence pledges to report your answers accurately and without embellishment. If you are an incumbent, we will also report your voting record on gun violence issues. Once compiled, this data will be reported to our membership and supporters. We will also present your responses to Project Vote Smart, as well as reporting them to Hangun Control, Inc., which may endorse candidates, and the media. We will also make this data available through our website.

With an understanding that your final decision will be based on the actual wording of any proposed legislation, please answer the questions on the reverse side to the best of your ability by marking the appropriate box to the right of the question. A space for any comments is provided below the questions. Below you'll find an explanation as to why Virginians Against Handgun Violence has concern regarding these issues. Feel free to add any comments you wish or to offer suggestions, and don't forget to sign and date the survey at the bottom of the reverse page.

Once again, thank you for your time.

Why Virginians Against Handgun Violence is concerned
about the issues reflected in our questions:

Question 1.): Statistically, the rate of accidents involving firearms in homes with children drops when such devices are employed. These devices are inexpensive insurance against accident and misuse.

Question 2.) In 1996, based on well-founded concerns that public safety was being compromised, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors elected to restrict the carrying of firearms in county owned recreation centers and police stations. The State government chose to intervene and prevent the county government from protecting its citizens on its own property.

Question 3.) In several other states such as Pennsylvania, such sales must occur at the storefront operation of a dealer licenced by the state. Such a requirement would end the unscrutinized transaction of firearms at gun shows, flea markets, and through classified advertisement.

Question 4.) Statistically, 18-20 year olds are becoming more likely to engage in acts of violence with a personally owned firearm.

Questions

Support Oppose
1.) Would you support legislation which would require that new handguns be sold with a child-safety lock, preventing children and other unauthorized persons from operating the weapon?
2.) Would you support legislation allowing cities and counties to restrict the carrying of guns and other weapons in public buildings such as recreation centers and public parks?
3.) Would you support legislation requiring that background checks be performed on all individuals who purchase firearms through gun shows, flea markets and newspaper ads?
4.) Would your support legislation which would prohibit the transfer to and possession of handguns and semi-automatic assault weapons by individuals who are less than 21 years old?
